I REVIEW THE ROYSTON CLUB AT BELFAST. WHAT HAPPENED?

04/12/2022

This week, The Royston Club made its Belfast premiere at one of the city's most active venues for fresh and varied music. Since its opening, VooDoo, a venue on Foutain Lane, has hosted a number of underappreciated acts.

TRC's performance on Wednesday marked the conclusion of their UK tour; however, on Thursday, they will open for Scottish musician Dylan John Thomas in Glasgow's Barrowlands. Although I had never seen these fellas perform live before, I had been listening to their music for a few weeks before the performance after learning about their upcoming show. Since they were only created three years ago, their catalogue is really astounding after knowing about their past. Therefore, whenever I had the chance, I would visit them. Therefore, it has been a delight to watch these boys' ability develop into the band that is now known as destined for the stars.

The perfect way to start the night was with Mariana, and the perfect way to end it was with Mariana. Tom's soaring vocals and Ben's thrilling riffs blasted forth every song a listener could hope to hear. Mariana, Mrs. Narcissistic, and my personal favourite, Cherophobe, were just a few of the tracks from TRC's 14-song set list that they performed. One could detect influences from The Reytons, The Smiths, The Strokes, etc.

TRC has listed The Strokes as a significant influence on their career, which is not a coincidence. After seeing their headline performance, it is completely clear why they are sweeping the UK indie music industry and playing sold-out events around Wales (c'mon, Wrexham). They should have no doubt that when they come back, their loyal supporters from Belfast will be right there with them. I can't wait for them to come back after a genuinely great night with an energetic crowd.

The band's UK tour comes to a close, but they still have a show supporting other artists coming up. On their official website, found here, The Royston Club provides additional details on everything they do. Good luck to the future boys. Shoutout to Sam (Drummer). Dave (Bass) and Dylan (Guitar) who i haven't mentioned who also ruled with the band that night!
